Ask
Mary Ellen
Q
What was the inspiration for Little Red Robin?
A
These tunes were the songs of my childhood. I have always felt that
it's part of my mission to reinterpret the lyric and make great songs
accessible to a new generation of music lovers. This latest CD,
Little Red Robin is the metaphor for doing what you're meant to
do, just as a bird was meant to sing and fly. It's an expression of
thanks for these wonderful, older tunes that taught me about real
songcraft. In selecting these songs, I began to see a circular nature
of life, such as the joy in Halleluiah! I Love Him, the
despair of Willow Weep for Me, the hope of When the Red,
Red Robin... The thread that ties it all together for me is the
celebration of life and most importantly the resilience of "hope."
Q
What was the
inspiration for the writing of "Heart Soar" Or "Meadowmist?"
A
I
was fascinated with this double meaning phrase, "Heart
Soar." It encompasses both of those feelings of
falling for someone who makes your heart soar like a bird and yet at
the same time, someone who makes your heart ache, for fear of getting
hurt.
Meadow Mist
came about when I was working a part-time job in New York City. I
was typing the address, Meadow Mist Lane on an envelope. Hmmmm.......my
mind began to wander. I had just been to Ireland and I had wanted
to write a tune with a Celtic flavor. As I typed, I could see the
morning mist rising up from the glen and two people running toward one
another. I guess there were way too many romantic old movies in my
upbringing. That is due to my Mother.
Q

Street), Greatest Hits of Les Paul & Mary Ford, Michael Johnson (The
Early Years), Big-T and the Bada-Bings (Born to be Wild).
